Identification
Purpose
The purpose of identification is to ensure that student's needs are met by appropriate programming. Identification may be initiated at any time by teachers, support staff, parents and/or the student. In DCSD we use a body of evidence collected over time to determine a need for gifted programming.
Procedure
To be identified for Gifted and Talented programming, a team of staff must review a body of evidence (BOE) that includes:
Three or more pieces of evidence (Cognitive test, academic tests, observation scales, portfolio, etc...)
Data from more than one source, to show a broad picture of the student.
These data points show a strength in one area.
Data is both quantitative and qualitative.
The assessments used by the district are reliable, valid, and culturally fair.
