General Information

Birthday Treats We will honor our students at school on their  birthday by including them on morning announcements. Classroom teachers are always more than welcome to acknowledge in their own personal way. We do not allow food or special treats to be brought in to share as birthday treats.

Second Grade Expectations

Behavior Expectations

Information regarding your child’s behavior in class will be sent to you daily via an online monitoring program that second grade uses called Class Dojo.  Your child will gain points for positive behaviors and lose points for negative behavior.  During the first week of school, you will receive your parent login information and directions on how to get started.  If you have any questions or concerns after logging on, please feel free to contact me.

Wednesday/Thursday Folders

Each Wednesday/Thursday your child will bring home a folder.  Please take the time to look through the folder, as there will be information from both the school and from the classroom.  Please empty your child’s  folder before returning it to school on the following Monday/Tuesday.

 Homework

Students in 2nd grade are expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night.  Your child will bring his/her homework folder home nightly with math pages for their elearning instruction for the next day.  This folder contains any paper homework that needs to be completed.   Another great homework opportunity is practicing addition and subtraction facts to and from 20 (10+5, 8+9, 19-7, 14-9)

Planners

Your child has a planner this year that will come back and forth on their in person days. We ask that you look at your child’s planner and sign it each night to indicate that your child has completed his/her homework. The students get a Dojo point for having their planners signed! Please talk about the importance of using this planner at home as we will also be reinforcing this information at school as well. We are working on developing leaders who are proactive in their educational journey!

Snacks

Your child may bring one healthy snack to school to eat during our morning outdoor learning time.

Specials

On weeks with Fitness or P.E., students must wear tennis shoes.  We encourage your child to take his/her water bottle with him/her to these specials, especially in warm weather.

Water Bottles

Students MUST have a water bottle at school, especially with the warm weather.  Please send in a water bottle with a pop-up top that can be refilled throughout the day.  Make sure that the water bottle is labeled with your child’s name.  Students will take home their water bottle each day.

Cell Phone

Per school policy, between the hours of 8:35 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. student phones and smart watches are not permitted.  If your child brings one of these items to school, it is their responsibility to either stow it away in their backpack or turn it into the classroom teacher. Both before school and after school, students are welcome to have and use their phones as they wish (in accordance with already established district and building policies, of course!).

Please let us know if you have any questions or need clarification about anything.  We are excited to be on this journey with your family this year.  We are here to teach, to inspire, to advocate for, and to care for your child.  We view working with families as a partnership and are here to do what we can to make this year a positive experience!
