Mrs. Turner's Music Class

Welcome to Music at Acres Green Elementary!

Our students learn music through the Orff Schulwerk approach which combines music, movement, speech and drama. We sing, say, dance, play and create while studying a variety of musical concepts. I'm looking forward to another exciting year of creating music together and having fun!

Please visit the American Orff Schulwerk Association Website for more information about this creative teaching and learning process!

Please feel free to email me with any questions:

"Elemental music is never just music. It is bound up with movement, dance and speech, and so it is a form of music in which one must participate, in which one is involved not as a listener but as a co-performer."

About Mrs. Turner

Hello Acres Green Families! I am so excited to see you for the 2020-21 school year! This is my fifth year teaching music at Acres Green and my eleventh year teaching K-12 music. Before coming to Douglas County, I taught in Chicago Public Schools and Denver Public Schools. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Olivet Nazarene University and a Master of Music degree in voice performance from Roosevelt University.

Before starting my career in teaching, I performed with musical theatre companies in Chicago including Porchlight Music Theatre, Griffin Theatre Company, and Light Opera Works. I also worked in arts administration at Chicago College of Performing Arts and Grant Park Music Festival. Over the past few summers,
I have completed Orff Schulwerk Level I, II & III trainings at Metropolitan State University of Denver. I am a member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Orff Schulwerk Association and am Orff Schulwerk certified.

I grew up in Michigan and am so happy to call Colorado my home now! I enjoy skiing and hiking in the mountains and also love practicing barre and yoga. My goal for us in music class is to sing, say, dance, play and create each week. I look forward to creating beautiful music with all of you!
